PRANA KRIYA SADHANA (Tantric Kashmir Shaïvaism Tradition)
About Tantric Kashmir Shaïvaism;
Tantric Kashmir ShaïvaismThe spiritual path into the tantric Kashmir Shaïvaism lies essentially in an inner enquiry so to reveal the deep realities of life into the ordinary individual’s daily life. For that reason, there is no place either for any imagined god or any superstition weakening the individual’s reflection abilities. Its vision proposed through scriptures and practical teachings is therefore only the fruits resulting from deep researches into yogis’ interiority. Since many centuries, they have attested the existence of a part of reality which is almost ignored by the common people. One of the major aspects of that reality describes life as an energetical phenomenon (prana) which the different degrees of concentration, intensity and quality will first organize and then give birth to many declinations from the very subtle non materiality to the densest matter. 36 levels of different energetically densities are described (the 36 tattwas) which by gathering together compose a strong dynamism organizing the whole of the nature visible and non visible.It is then said that this dynamic (shakti) is itself the expression of a non acting conscious quality (paramshiva) and that both together constitute a state of union (yoga) which the spiritual paths invite to realize and live within the daily life.The yogi or the yogini are then seen as inner questioners in search of the true reality taking them to that very perception of the union Shiva/Shakti, qualified as “being-consciousness-bliss” (sat-chit-ananda)Each and every practice derived from the immense technical exercise corpus of Shaïvaism would and should only been studied for this quest of the reality meanings and the discovery of the sacred dimension of life. The Prana Kriya Sadhana does not make any exception to that basic principle.
About Prana Kriya Sadhana
Prana Kriya Sadhana is a spiritual energetic exercise mainly organized around 8 breathing practices running ones next to the other into a specific rhythm and intensity developing with the time. Its precise and detailed study needs strong attention and daily regularity from 1 hour at the beginning to 3 hours after several years. It progressively brings the student to a natural meditative state where a strong inner joy meets a wider conscious perception and a powerful sensation of being alive. Its practice includes physical exercises, powerful breathings, energetic lockings (bandhas), internalized sounds (mantras), structured visualizations (yantras), feelings (bhavas) and figurative identifications (samyamas)The structure of the energetic body (prana maya kosha) is organized according to different levels of intensity of the so called “primordial energy” and it is necessary here to give a brief description of its activities. The words prana maya kosha designs a fluid transitory structure. Fluid as it is in movement, transitory as it is changing and structure as it is organized. We then have to constantly keep in mind that prana maya kosha is not a fixed body with a permanent regular density organization, but a changing and fluid movement that the prana kriya sadhana practice will make progressively more fluid, more intense, more concentrated. This moving organization contains mainly energetic knotted areas (granthis), energetic channels (nadis), originated energetic centers (padmas) and energetic rotating wheels (chakras)In the first stages, Prana Kriya Sadhana works as releasing the energetic resistances gathered into the three granthis situated in the abdominal, thoracic and head areas, and then as reflowing the freed energy into the nadis network. This works goes mainly through powerful breathings exercises together with very precise gestures. In its second stage, Prana Kriya Sadhana works as concentrating this flowing energy into the chakras and then using it into the padmas through long maintained concentration on sounds and colors. Then lastly in the third stage, Prana Kriya Sadhana works as linking the unified primordial energy with the individual’s energetic activity through the practices of figurative identifications.This path is altogether linked to the life force, or primordial energy, or in other words to the sexual power. As it is the only power capable of real creativity up to the point of elaborating the apparition of a new individual. The whole tantric doctrine has been set upon the life force and it is very important to understand that if tantra is a research on the sexual power, there is very little insistence on physical sexual relationship as such. It is mainly a study on the life force manifesting through the sexual abilities to create life, as well as using this life force to access the non dual primordial energy. It would be vain in believing that the different stages of Prana Kriya Sadhana could be studied through books or shortcut information. These teachings are totally included into the oral tradition systems where the relationship instructor/student is the only possible transmission way going along with a sort of regular supervision and an adapted and detailed methodology. Time is a needed factor as it helps to progressively integrate numerous details, but also to bring into the relationship a quality of self knowledge giving birth to ethical virtues which are the only protection in such an energetic practice. Working on the life force requires a great deal of understanding and a personal integration of the plays of forces operating into the universe itself. Without those understanding and integration, the practice might bring psycho affective troubles. It is most probable that this is one of the reasons for oral transmission, also sometimes called “initiation”, and here again it is important to clear up that meaning from any kind of mystical secret of funny fashioned view of the day… Reality is much more open and wide than any fantasy or occult powers which most of the time are bound and stuck into personal ambitions mainly dating back to a difficult childhood period…Prana Kriya Sadhana can be considered as a real treasure, one of those the traditional yogas have been the care takers since time immemorial. Those Teachings have never been hidden. They have been simply kept into a transmitting process where human qualities such as dignity, humility, soul grandeur, self gift, consciousness and clarity were and still are taken for valuable necessities. In this regard, a very deep study of the psychological patterns and social behaviors and their integration into one’s personal practical life, as those enumerated into Patanjali’s yamas and niyamas is a must into that kind of path.
